We drove from Harbor Springs to Mackinac
City today then took the ferry to the island
for the day. Mackinac Island does not have any cars allowed. Transportation is on foot (that's what we did), by bicycle (you know how I feel about bikes) or by horse drawn carriage. Right near town is the Grand Hotel (pictured above). This was the location for the film "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Apparently this film has become a cult classic in much the same manner as the "Rocky Horror Picture Show". Folks dress up as characters and attend showings. In fact, the week we were there was the annual event. There are many nice homes on the island and I took photos of a number of them. We spent all day walking the island and finally got to see some nature in Arch Rock. Not quite on the scale of Arches National Park but still quite impressive. |
