For a number of years, I have been looking for the so-called Old Patriarch tree. I had first seen it pictured in a book on photography locations in Grand Teton National Park. I had looked for it a number of times but could not locate it although I knew roughly where it was located.

With new information as to its location, on my return from Yellowstone last week, I was determined to find this tree and capture some photos of it. I FOUND IT.

I did not arrive until late in the day and therefore wound up shooting into the western sky. It was cloudy so that helped some. However a large number of my shots suffered from a green lens flare. I did get a few good ones... especially in composition. Above is one of those shots (post-processed in Lightroom 4 followed by a trip into Topaz Clarity).

I decided to play around with that rendition in Topaz B&W and came up with this.

This is definitely a place I want to come back to in the future with different lighting conditions.
